HERO: Week of 01.11

Status Report - HERO: Week of 01.11

Posted:January 11, 2015

Easing back into a project after taking an extended break is always difficult. Part of this week has been getting my mind back into the world of HERO by revising and reviewing my design documentation. I've made some minor tweaks to the premise and added details that had been floating around in my mind for the past few months but hadn't gotten around to including yet. Much of that involves spoilers so no peeky-peeky yet.

Cemetery

I dove back into the 3D SketchUp model of the city and got my mind and fingers back into practice by adding a cemetery to the outskirts of town. This was one of several locations I was reminded to include while I was working on The Residuals. These additions help get me back into it before I returning to the more intense design work of the shops in the downtown district. Check previous blog posts to see how those are coming along. A large chunk of the exteriors are done, the ones in the shotengai, and I was working on some of the more important interiors.

Maiwashi Shotengai

Much of the modeling work I've done the past year has been on the smaller detail side, but there have been some revisions on a larger scale to account for making those smaller items more accurate. This week I've also worked on pushing those updates to the map of the city. The changes haven't been rolled out online yet, but they will when ready.

Takeizumi Map Inset

This coming week will be more of the same. Getting back to working on downtown interiors is a high priority as they require lots of attention. One note I want to add is to address the lack of vegetation in all the models. Organic material and additional detail will be added outside of the modeling environment, so the images depict a more distant view that will be blocked by trees and other vegetation.

All images are unrendered, raw SketchUp models.
