Status Report - HERO: Week of 02.24

Guess what, travelers? The script for Act 1 of HERO is finished! Hooray! It took eighteen months to write 1,700,000 words, but since it splits into seven routes halfway through the Act, each playthrough will result in players reading about 350,000 of them. Breaking down the data further, each of the seventeen chapters of Act 1 is between 20,000 and 30,000 words long, with a few falling outside this range.

Act 2 is next in line to be written, followed by Act 3. They are roughly equal in length as Act 1, with seventeen and fifteen chapters respectively. I aim for each to take twelve months to write, but as we saw for Act 1, it may take longer. Concurrently, art asset development will begin as well. Now that a solid third of the script is written, I have a better handle on how those need to be produced. That involves backgrounds, now that I know which locations in my 3D model are most important; character sprites, now that I know which expressions, poses, and apparel are important; and miscellaneous items such as the GUI.
